This grant will offer financial assistance for Lorraine Roach to receive training as an LCMS deaconess in the newly established Concordia Theological Seminary online/on-campus intensive two-year program. She intends to become certified as an LCMS deaconess, working to enhance the ministry at Trinity in Grangeville, ID and to conduct outreach in Idaho County, ID. As a certified deaconess, Lorraine Roach plans to work with life issues in the community; sexual integrity (abstinence) education; options in the community including adoption; certified Christian counseling as enhancement to counseling already provided at the Hope Pregnancy and Life Skills Centers of Grangeville and Kamiah, Idaho; crisis pregnancy and post-abortion counseling at the Hope Centers; women in small group Bible studies in the church and in the community; confirmation class instruction; and LCMS church strategic planning. The Northwest District LCMS has an extreme shortage of commissioned deaconesses, there being only five such deaconesses at this time, all of whom are located on the extreme western geographic areas of the NOW District. |
